Game with Japan cancelled, Nepal, who became group winner, will play against Sri Lanka

Nepal defeated Afghanistan by 5 wickets on Friday. Having reached the quarterfinals as the winner of Group 'A', Nepal will now play Sri Lanka for a spot in the semi-finals.

Nagoya — The cricket match between Nepal and Japan in the 20th Asian Games on Saturday was canceled. Nepal, batting after losing the toss at Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya, scored 149 runs for 4 wickets in a rain-shortened 15-over game.

But the match was called off after heavy rain once Nepal's innings ended. Nepal had defeated Afghanistan by 5 wickets on Friday. Having reached the quarterfinals as the winner of Group 'A', Nepal will now play against Sri Lanka for a spot in the semi-finals. The host team Japan, however, was already out in the group stage.  

In the ongoing tournament in Japan, Afghanistan, the runner-up of Group 'B', will play another quarterfinal against India.

After Sandeep Jora and Lokesh Bam scored half-centuries, Nepal managed to post a good score. Jora remained unbeaten on 57 off 32 balls, and Lokesh remained unbeaten on 52 off 22 balls. During this, the two shared a 65-run partnership off 30 balls for the fifth wicket.

While openers Kushal Bhurtel and Kushal Malla were losing patience, Jora played confidently, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes. One of his fours occurred when a Japanese fielder jumped at the boundary line as he was on 49.

Lokesh completed his half-century on the last ball of the innings. This is also his first half-century in Twenty20 internationals. Lokesh entertained most of the nearly 2,000 Nepali spectators by hitting a total of 1 four and 6 sixes.  

Bhurtel played 12 balls and got out after scoring just 4 runs. The other opener, Asif Sheikh, played 15 balls, hitting 1 four and 1 six to score 21 runs. Mall got out after scoring 2 runs off 5 balls, and Gulzhan Jha got 2 runs off 6 balls. For Japan, Reo Sakurano Thomas, Ibrahim Takahashi, Jake Kusuda Narin, and Declan Suzuki took 1 wicket each.
